Field Day 2020

Jeff K4JSS & Paul WB0CJB

The MARC participated in the 2020 Field Day at the Saddle and Bridle pavilion, located in the Maury County Park. Setup was started at around 8 AM and by the 1 PM start everyone was on the air. There were a total of 14 people, both MARC and non MARC members who participated.

K4JSS, KN4GBO, KN4PCV, N4JW, KM1Z, and W4WRR set up stations for HF phone, CW, digital and VHF operation. At this time the final number of contacts were 100. Due to the pandemic several stations may have opted to operate from home as a class D station. Their score should be included with the MARC score when the ARRL goes through and tallies up the FD scores. The December issue of QST will publish the full scoring.

Thanks to Jeff for picking up the FD coordinator position in such a short time. He did a great job with only 3 weeks to prepare. Normally FD planning is pretty much a year long event and being able to pull it off in 3 weeks is a great job. I was unable to be there for Field Day as my wife and I were in Indiana attending a birthday party, as well as visiting her friends and college roommate.

FD2021 is cautiously being planned but it will be January before any serious planning will be done. Who will be coordinator for next year is also uncertain. The paperwork for next year's FD will be filed with the park in October or November.

Thanks to everyone for doing a great job at FD and lets start planning now for making FD 2021 to be a much bigger event.

73,

Jeff K4JSS & Paul WB0CJB

MARC 2020 FD was a little different than in the past because of the COVID19 Virus threat. The operations were held at the Bridle and Saddle Club pavilion, located in the Maury County Park. FD was the weekend of June 27th and 28th. The operations were conducted with the "social distancing" and the intent of protection and safety of everyone on site. On air operations began at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 27th and lasted until early Sunday morning.

This year's meal was pizza furnished by the MARC for everyone participating.

This year the club had operators running voice, code, and digital modes.

Several operators decided to do Field Day from their homes or a site they felt safe at. They operated under their own call, but were able to affiliate their score with the MARC score when they were sent in this year. It will be exciting to see what the total score from all operations will be ! Please read the FD Operating Rules from the ARRL for an explanation of this change.

Hopefully next year's Field Day 2021 will be back to normal and we can plan a much larger get together and operation. We always want you, your family, and friends to come out and enjoy any event, but this year, we wanted to keep everyone safe as we always do! We hope you had a great FD, and a safe one and had lots of fun ... 73

Several members from the Maury Amateur Radio Club met with Mr. Chaz Molder, the Mayor of Columbia and Mr. Andy Ogles, the Mayor of Maury County to sign a Proclamation declaring this week, June 16-23 as Amateur Radio Week in Columbia and Maury County. We appreciate these officials meeting with our group to recognize the Amateur Radio Operators (HAMs), and signing this document.
